It looks like NostalgiCo has mentioned there may be a new public demo soon on their development blog. They also show some excellent pics of the statues that are part of the campaign that many have ordered. I hope this is true. If it is true then they need this demo and a changed mindset towards the future development of the game to reignite the fire that has gone out of this Kickstarter campaign. NostalgiCo can ask for endless patience from all of us but facts are facts, the longer that a project takes to completion, the more likely that a campaign will never be completed as funds are depleted and people move on, especially the backers who lose faith on a project they have had.
How can they expect the backers to continue to have patience when they promised several builds of the game, but only about two ever came out, as well as providing excellent update on the progress of the game, but instead their have been months between updates of at least half a year and no mention of a timeline as to when the game will be completed or how much they have yet to complete. Can you believe that even though I am happy that a new public demo may be out soon I am more worried that this demo will come out and then the developers will go back and disappear for a year. I have been part of other kickstarters where the creators maintained monthly updates even after the campaign was funded if even small ones and had a milestone chart that plotted their progress of when things would happen and be completed. More details of what needs to happen below!
NostalgiCO needs to do the following to reclaim the faith backers once had in them
-Come out with a demo that shows that much work has been done in a year and half since the kickstarter happened
-No more six to eight months between updates
-I know NostalgiCo mentions in a Kickstarter update that there are only 4 main people working on the game and they are working on this on the side as they have family and day jobs and I can understand the pressure to complete this game under those constraints but they never should have come out with the grand scope of the game that they did if they were not going to be able to complete this game within a reasonable amount of time. When I read in one of their updates that they have day jobs and work on this when they are able to, I get very frustrated because they knew what they were getting into when they created the Kickstarter campaign and if the project became to big in scope and size they should have scaled back.
I have just become too frustrated to be very understanding of this situation, maybe if they updated more often or showed a bit more interaction with the community it might be easier to deal with the delays. Do you think people would have pledged to the project back in February 2013 if they were told then that the game was going to be worked upon on the side when time was available instead of on a more consistent basis. Probably not!
-They need to come out with a milestone chart that shows when the beta will come out and final game and fulfillment of the campaign. If they can't do a milestone chart of when the game should be out then they are in trouble. In half a year, which is February 2015, it will be 2 years, yes 2 years since the campaign was funded. It is beyond ridiculous if an estimated date can not be given at this point.
-So if this upcoming demo which may happen soon may be a sign of things to come then my faith may yet still be restored.
-Faith was lost because during the campaign they would update every week and once the campaign was over they came out with a build or two and an update every 6 months or so. They went very wrong in distancing themselves from the backers and not managing the time very wisely.
-This demo should be signs of a beta coming soon because it should be close to the time we have a majority of the game done. I hope that the demo does not mean very little of the game has been completed. Afterall what was the purpose of raising so much money beyond their initial goal if they are going to take this long.
-We need to know numbers, how much of the game is done, how much still needs to be done. If this can't be said or estimated at this point in time, way beyond the proposed release date the project is in trouble regardless of the points NostalgiCo may bring up to the contrary.
NostalgiCo, lets see if you can improve and restore the faith many of your backers have lost in you. Will you restore it or continue the path you have been on!
