Archie Award of Excellence Story- Mission : Most Improbable
Written by George Gladir and Pencils by Pat and Tim Kennedy
What an outstanding new lead story in this just released Comics Double Digest. Not only is this Digest title one of my favorites since I love the Jughead stories, especially the ones drawn by Rex Lindsey, the new lead story featured is outstanding and full of heart. I love the way that Archie Comics Digests are often tailored to the season such as the Christmas stories appearing in November and December and the Valentines day stories appearing in this Digest which is one the main themes featured. Mission: Most Improbable is the 8 page tale of one lonely Ethel who wishes upon a wishing well that she be granted her hearts desire, to be kissed by Jughead. A mission that many Archie fans know is very impossible because Jughead usually prefers eating to girls. Little does Ethel know that her wish actually is sent to Cupid headquarters where they try and carry out the wishes that people wish for. These type of stories go beyond and feature worlds and characters that you would not think exist even in Riverdale such as the mysterious Cupid Headquarters and their mission to grant the wishes of peoples hearts. This story makes you feel for Ethel and her hopes and desires to get kissed by Jughead. How many of us have wished and desired things that were out of our reach, just like Ethel does in this story! It is both a heartfelt as well as a humorous well written and wonderful new lead story you should not miss reading and definitely one that hits at the heart strings!
The funny and zany humor ensues when various cupids attempt to get Jughead to kiss Ethel but they find that this may be the one mission they can't complete as Jughead kissing a girl is almost next to impossible. Will any Cupid be able to complete their mission, will Jughead kiss Ethel, find out in this hilarious, heartfelt and well written and very funny new lead story.
Archie Honorable Mention Stories
Other very noteworthy stories include Jughead in His Hidden Talent written by George Gladir and drawn by the amazing Fernando Ruiz in which Jughead hates doing any kind of work that does not involve eating but is able to find work for others. Wait until you read the very funny ending in which Jughead finds himself in a situation he hates to be in! Another great story: Jughead in Lucky Lunch Break written by Mike Pellowski and drawn by another amazing Archie artist Bill Galvan involves a very funny story in what happens when Jughead forgets to take his lunch to school for the very time in his life and has no money to buy any food either. Will Jughead eat or skip lunch for the first time in his life?
Summary
This is the second Digest that I give a 5 out of 5 rating for an excellent new lead story and may great Jughead stories written by some great Archie writers and unforgettable artists such as Fernando Ruiz, Rex Lindsey, Stan Goldberg and others. You don't want to miss picking up this new Digest and don't forget some Kleenex to possibly wipe away a few tears after reading the new lead story!
