Archie Award of Excellence Story: Archie in Robot Millenium
Art by Jeff Shultz, Written by George Gladir
-This new 6 page lead story gets top spot due to its funny and humorous portrayal of a Riverdale of the future.
-This story takes place in 2037 A.D. and depicts a Riverdale of the future where Robots called Robs act as personal assistants to humans.
-This is one of the reasons I love Archie comics because you can have Archie in so many different types of settings and environments and I am also someone that loves sci-fi type of stories.
-This is a fun and short story that is drawn very well by Jeff Shultz, another one of my favorite Archie artists and goes to show just how Archie as well as Betty and Veronica handle situations through the use of the Robs.
-In one example, Archie's personal Rob known as Carrot Top helps Archie sneak past Weatherbee because he is late to school.
-Its a nice story that depicts how Robs could be used in the future by the Archie characters and its just neat seeing robots working with humans to make their lives better and in this story helping Archie get away with so many things he would not be able to otherwise. This is the kind of story I hope to see more of in the future and expaned upon into some kind of mystery or adventure.
Archie Honorable Mention: The Cartoon Life of Chuck Clayton: Part 2 of 4
Art by Fernando Ruiz and Written by Alex Simmons
-One of the things that I have enjoyed about the Archie's Funhouse Digest title is how they have featured story arcs in it such as this 4 part story arc of The Cartoon Life of Chuck Clayton. Part one was in the last FunHouse Digest #8 and Part 2 is in this one, followed by the last two parts in the next two Funhouse Digests.
-Another aspect that I enjoyed in this one is great art again by Fernando Ruiz, an artist that I have chosen to highlight in many of my reviews recently. Fernando Ruiz is among my favorite Archie artists of the current era.
-Part 2 is very funny and shows Chuck as he helps the kids in a community center learn to draw and cartoon. I actually like seeing Chuck in the role of a comic book artist and creator more than that of a football player.
-There are also some serious issues beyond the humor when Chuck tries to help a young girl enjoy the great art and stories that she creates because her grandfather who was once a comic book artist many years back had problems making it big in the comic book world so he discourages his granddaugter from doing it.
-Will Chuck be able to help this young girl as well as her grandfather? Read this story and find out!
Archie Honorable Mention: Archie in Grand Entrance
Art by Dan Parent and Written by Barbara Slate
-A great story drawn by another favorite Archie artist, Dan Parent, tells the story of a fall dance that Betty is one of the main persons that is working to put everything together. The problem is that Veronica is jealous at everyone complementing how great Betty is in putting the fall dance together. She is tired of everyone telling her how great Betty is.
-Veronica hopes to get even with Betty by coming to the dance looking very well dressed and looking better than Betty.
-What happens at the end of this story is the funny and zany part of this 2 part 10 page adventure and what happens when you try to get even with someone!
-Read this story and find out whether Veronica actually gets what she wants or what she deserves!
Overall Rating-Outstanding: 4 out of 5 Stars
