Archie Award of Excellence Story: Betty in Riverdale Revisited
(Art by Stan Goldberg and written by Kathleen Webb)
As I read this Archie Award of Excellence story I thought about the legendary artist Stan Goldberg who recently passed away in early September and created art for many Archie stories and covers for many decades. When I think of Archie one of the artists I think about is Stan Goldberg. His great art definitely shines here in a story that is among my favorites and is about a mysterious pair of glasses that Betty finds when she is raking the leaves in her backyard. The unique thing about the glasses is that when she puts them on she sees the Riverdale of 1860 instead of that of her current time in 2014. These are the type of Sci-fi stories that I love to see in the Archie Comics and love reading them. Read this story to find out what happens in Riverdale of 1860, who Betty saves in 1860, an important person potentially responsible to her future existence, and what the news channel that evening would talk about. Another story in which our great Betty is exploring a different time and place in a great sci-fi story of what happens when you find a mysterious time travel object!
Archie Honorable Mention Story: A Haunting we will go!
(Art by Bill Galvan and Story by Bill Golliher)
A new lead story that is an honorable mention in this Digest. As I said in another review I like when the animal characters show up in the comics. In this story you will see many of them from Hot Dog, Vegas, Caramel, Runty and so many other animal characters join together to get rid of a mouse and of how zany and funny this turns out to be within this adventure during a Halloween party. I also have to mention that this story has some great art by the talented Bill Galvan.
Archie Honorable Mention Story: Archie in Life in the fast lane
(Art by Stan Goldberg and writen by Mike Pellowski)
Another story drawn by the great Stan Goldberg in which Archie due to seeing a pretty girl passes a red light and is given a speeding ticket. The funny and very humorous elements happen when he tries to hide this ticket from his parents and then he discovers that he is not the only one who recieved a speeding ticket. Find out who else his hiding a speeding ticket in this great and funny story!
Archie Honorable Mention Story: Archie the Barbarian
(Art by Stan Goldberg and written by John Albano)
It is interesting that this is the third story that is selected as a great story in this Digest that is also drawn by Stan Goldberg. As I mentioned before you will most likey see many upon many stories that were drawn by the late Stan Goldberg as you go through the Digests since he produced so much work in his time with Archie. It is that his art complements the writing of the story very well. This is another type of fantasy adventure that I like to see in the Archie comics that places the Archie characters in a different time period and in this one Archie is a barbarian warrior along with Betty, Veronica and Jughead who are warriors in his army as well. What happens is a well written story in which Reggie has stolen some much needed supplies and they must be reclaimed but is Archie really the fearless leader and warrior that inspires his men into battle. Find out in this story!
Another Digest that is highly recommended with a great new lead story, other great stories listed above as well as other great ones such as She's Josie stories and Tales Calculated to drive you Bats!
Overall Digest Rating: Outstanding!: 4 out of 5 Stars
